Home at last

Well, after some frustrating times in the hospital we finally got home late last night. We kept getting some conflicting information from the doctors and nurses. First we were discharged, then told we had to stay for some blood test results that wouldn't be in until the next day. Saturday we were discharged again then a nurse came a got Brooklyn because they said she had jaundice and would have to be under lights for at least 24 hours. We were so tired of being locked in a room and just wanted to go home. Eventually they came back that night and told us her levels had dropped and we could go home. We rushed to pack our things before they changed their minds. I had gotten a lot of practice with packing because of all the times we had been "discharged" and I had pack up the car. We were home by 10:00 pm and got everything settled in time to go to bed.

Brooklyn has been a great sleeper so far. We usually have to wake her up for feedings. The only time she has ever cried so far (knock on wood) is when we change her clothes. I'm sure once she is a little older things will start to get less...quiet.

I am still trying to figure out if she is as cute as I think she is or if I am just biased. It's always hard to get an honest opinion from others when it comes to babies. So if you feel so inclined to honestly tell me what you think then please leave a comment. Regardless of what you might say I still think we make a pretty darn good baby!

She's Here!!!

We received a new addition to our family last night March 26th, 2008 at 9:45 p.m. Everything went great except that the epidural stopped working during the worst part (figures with our luck). Both baby and Mom are doing great and should be leaving the hospital Friday. Brooklyn was born weighing in at 7 lbs 3 oz and 19 inches long.

Baby drop

Well, the baby is just starting to drop and we only have a few more days to wait. We will be going in to be induced on Wednesday. So hopefully I will be a new dad by the end of the day. Kristin has a genetic condition called MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) which makes folic acid harder to be absorbed. She just takes some extra folic acid and there shouldn't be any problems. The only side effect is that the placenta ages a little faster so we get a delivery by the 38th week! My next posting should be news of the birth. Keep your eyes peeled.

Are we ready yet?

Kristin is now at 37 weeks with Brooklyn and it is looking like we are going to have her induced sometime next week. I am starting a new job at Medical Mutual of Ohio on the 31st and we want to have Brooklyn born before I start so I don't have to worry about missing the birth. After we see the doctor in the 38th week then we can schedule when we are going in. We are hoping for sometime early in the week so I can spend some time with our new baby. The last time we were in the doctors they did another ultrasound and they gave us some 3D printouts of what she looks like.

They also measured her at 6 lbs 8 oz, but those measurements are usually a bit off. For some reason the pending birth date kind of snuck up on us and we still haven't got anything ready. I think we are still in some sort of denial...almost doesn't seem real. It's crazy to think that we are going to be parents soon. I can just picture us walking in the door after the hospital and just looking at her and then wondering "now what!" There's a manual out there, right?!

We have mostly finished the babies room. After our baby shower we had all the bedding that we needed and the decorations. We finally got some blinds for the window so we can have some privacy. We are still struggling to put away all the baby clothes that we have received. Trying to figure out how to coherently organize boxes full of clothes ranging from newborn to 18 months has been a headache. I suppose it is better than having no clothes at all. A big fear is what if they got the sex wrong? We have way too much pink for a little boy.
